Resource Policies (Patron Types)

In Patron Types, you can define as many groups of patrons as you need to describe the various types of patrons who check out resources.

You can also select the types of resources that they are allowed to check out.

Resource Manager provides the following default Patron Types:

  • Faculty (by default, can check out any resource type)
  • Student (by default, can check out any resource type)

The loan policies let your school districts have different circulation policies for patrons.

To work with patron types

  1. Select Back Office > Resource Policies > Patron Types.
  2. What do you want to do?
    If you want to…Then…

    Add a patron type*

    Click Patron Type. Make changes based on this patron type. Use Select All and Clear All to select the types of resources that patrons of this Patron Type are allowed to check out. For details on the list boxes, see Resource policies (Inherited from…).

    Edit a patron type

    Find the Patron Type you want to edit, then click . Make the needed changes. For details on the list boxes, see Resource policies (Inherited from…).

    Delete a patron type*


    Find the Patron Type you want to delete, then click . A confirmation message appears. If you click Yes, the patron type is removed from the Patron Types tab.

  1. When you are done, click Save.

*important: You cannot delete a Patron Type already assigned to patrons without specifying a replacement. Also, if you added new Patron Types, make sure to update the patron records, assigning the correct Patron Type to each one.

note: The patron types you create are also important for statistical and reporting purposes. You can limit, or group, the following reports by Patron Type: Current Checkouts, Patron Barcode Labels, Patron ID Cards, Patron Names, and Patron Statistics. You can also update patron records globally by Patron Type.
